Weekend Eats

Well, just as fast as the week flew by, the weekend also came and went.  So sad when that happens.  At least it was a fun one!

Let’s recap some fabulous eats from the passed 4 days.

Breakfasts

I have literally eaten the same thing for breakfast all week.  Oats with peanut butter and honey!

Lunches

During the week, I’ve been alternating between this simple salad:

Romaine, bell pepper strips, and Natural Fresh Ginger Dressing.

And this Subway sandwich:

Spinach, tomato, green peppers, pickles and banana peppers, toasted with provolone on wheat, with a touch of honey mustard.  After hearing several deli meat commercials talk about “other” sandwich places using turkey made with fillers and preservatives, I took a lucky guess that they were referring to Subway, and I decided it’s probably smarter to just skip the meat all together.  It is pretty creepy looking.

On Saturday, Corey and I stopped by a new place, called Rangetsu.  It’s a really nice Japanese restaurant that doubles as a nightclub at night.

I started with a salad with Soy Vinaigrette, followed by a Salmon Bento Box, which included half a California roll, rice, and 4 fried chicken-something-or-others.

Corey and I both raved about our meals.  It was so good!

Dinners

On Thursday, we went to Tibby’s.  I tried to be good and steered clear of all the fried menu options, and chose a grilled chicken sandwich, instead.  I clearly told our very rude waiter that I did not want mayo.  What did I get?  Extra mayo, no pickle.   I like pickles.  I was not a happy camper, but I ate it anyways.  I also had sweet potato fries as my side.

On Saturday, we went over to Austin’s house to have a little cook out.  Corey got to work mixing up some burgers:

While I sat around cheating ocolates and magging readazines.  <—— The only way you’re laughing at this is if you have the same last name as me.

The boys drank a concoction that is probably better suited for frat parties than cook-outs- Loaded Coronas.

You drink the top off of the beer, then add Bacardi Limon and a lime wedge and wave goodbye.

Once the burgers were ready, we dug in while watching a marathon of Lady Gaga videos.  What can I say- just your typical wild, post-college Saturday night.

Dessert

On Thursday, after Tibby’s, we decided to get some frozen yogurt.  Corey and I shared a cup of Red Velvet and Cake Batter, topped with a few of our favorites, like Golden Grahams.

I was overly excited to discover an amazing topping- Frosted Animal Cookies!

I was obsessed with these in middle school- and possibly high school.  I even divulged to Corey that I had a shirt with a string of frosted animal cookies across it…he’s still making fun of me.

Workouts

I took another accidental 2 days off after Wednesday’s workout.  I really need to stop doing that.

On Saturday, we went to the gym and I completed 25 minutes on the elliptical, followed by 20 minutes of running on the treadmill.  And, yet, another day off was had yesterday.  Ugh.  I’ll get it together this week!

Dinner Surprise

Yesterday seemed to fly by!

I deemed yesterday “HOMEWORK DAY”.  I sat down at my desk at 11AM, and didn’t move until 5PM.  I got a ton of stuff done, which makes me feel a lot better about the quickly approaching end of the semester.

Breakfast

I’m officially out of smoothie ingredients, which meant the return of my favorite b-fast combo.  A toasted whole wheat bagel thin with peanut butter and banana slices, served with a side of sliced strawberries.

Lunch

Sometimes, when I get in the “zone” of doing work, I forget about eating!  A rarity, but it happens.  Today was the perfect example of that, because my lunch was about as exciting as this:

I finished off the last (told you it would be gone by the next day!) of the Greek Orzo Salad.  I don’t know why I find it so hard to eat this off an actual plate.

I had plans to make a really healthy dinner, but then my handsome fiance walked through the door with an armful of to-go boxes, just for me!

His parents took him to dinner at Tibby’s while I was at class, and they were nice enough to order me a dinner to-go.  Corey picked out a chicken and rice dish with artichokes and sundried tomatoes (he knows me so well 🙂 ).

I served myself one of the chicken breasts and a portion of rice, and chopped it all up, like I always do:

It was so good.  I love the combo of artichokes and sundried tomatoes on anything.

When I called Corey earlier to see where he was, all he said was, “I’ll be home soon. I just ate my weight in shrimp ‘n’ grits.”  He brought home some of the infamous shrimp ‘n’ grits for me to try.

Maybe he meant “shrimp ‘n’ grease”? I had a bite, but it just wasn’t my kind of dish. Way too spicy!

When Corey and I had lunch at Tibby’s before, we noticed that every table was ordering beignets- a New Orleans traditional dessert- which is basically fried dough and powdered sugar. (Yes, I googled how to spell it.)  We didn’t order them while we were there, but Corey brought one home for me this time!

I popped it in the ‘wave for a few seconds, and it was to die for.  Fried + powdered sugar? Can’t go wrong.

What is your favorite to-go dinner from a restaurant?

Trying Something New

Yesterday was a day and night full of fun!  Let’s recap:

In the morning, I completed a treadmill workout that I found on FitSugar, and a quick weights routine, and then headed home for breakfast.

Breakfast

Nothing new here!  Just good ol’ Quaker Weight Control Oatmeal Banana Bread flavor, with one small banana and some sliced strawberries on top!  And, of course, a spoonful of Skippy Natural Peanut Butter mixed in.

Breakfast 🙂

I spent the morning doing some spring cleaning while listening to talk radio like a 70-year-old man.  After a quick shower, I headed out to meet Corey for lunch!  There’s a new place by our house that just opened that we had been dying to try.

When it comes to food, trying new things is just not my style.  I know which restaurants I love, and I generally order the same thing every time.  Corey is the total opposite.  He always wants to try new kinds of places, and he never orders the same thing twice.  The restaurant we went to was a stretch for me, because it was New Orleans style food, which I’ve really never even had.  But, I was ready to try something new!

The restaurant is called Tibby’s New Orleans Kitchen:

The decor inside was really cool!  They had tons of artwork hanging everywhere, and it kind of felt like a little piece of New Orleans.  Well, at least, what I would imagine a piece of New Orleans to be like.  I’ve never actually been there.

After browsing the menu, I came to the conclusion that residents of New Orleans more than likely have a weight problem. Everything was either fried or made with sausage!

After some debating, we decided we had to try the fried pickles for an appetizer:

Pickles!

They were fab!  The best part was definitely the sauce.  Apparently, Tibby makes a mean remoulade.

My options for a healthy lunch looked slim, but I decided to go with the only thing on the menu that sounded like it had a lot of vegetables.  I ordered the Eggplant Choupitoulas (pronounced CHOP-IT-TOO-LAS).  I just searched the internet for ten minutes trying to find what it was called and how to spell it!

I have an unnatural obsession with eggplant, so I was happy to see it on the menu!  This dish was definitely different, but I really liked it.  It had onions, green peppers, eggplant and mozzarella cheese on top of creole sauce.  I ate half and took the other half home.  Our table was in the center of the restaurant and it was packed, so in case anyone was wondering, I was really embarrassed to take these pictures. Especially when the waitress walked up to ask how everything was right as I was snapping the above photo.  She was visibly confused as to what the heck I was doing, and I’m sure the staff had a nice laugh at the crazy girl taking pictures of her food.

When Corey got home from work, we decided to head to our favorite place for Friday happy hour- Mitchell’s Fish Market.  We ordered our usual drinks, and our favorite appetizer of all time, Spinach, Artichoke and Crap dip.

Crab Dip!

Please forgive the blurry picture taken with my phone- after my embarrassment at lunch, I wasn’t about to whip out my camera at a place we visit regularly :).

The dip used to be served with pita points, which I think went with it a lot better.  I’m not a fan of the tortilla chips!

We also ordered the shrimp cocktail:

Shrimpies!

This was kind of a let-down.  Their shrimp cocktail used to come with 6 huge shrimp the size of lobster tails.  These were just normal little shrimpies.  Still good, though!

Corey tries to get every last bite out of the tail.  Sometimes, he can get a little too aggressive…and then something like this happens:

"I'll have a beer with a shrimp tail twist, please."

The shrimp tail slipped out of Corey’s fingers and flew directly into his beer.  I almost peed my pants.  The woman next to us came over when she was leaving and said, “I think shrimp tail will make your beer flat!” He was embarrassed.

After our mini dinner of delicious appetizers, we met our friends, Austin and Laura, at a place called World of Beer.

We also ran into our friend and Austin’s roommate, Brett, while we were there.  We had fun sampling a bunch of different beers, and I think the guys liked drinking out of those girly wine glass shaped glasses.

Afterwards, we decided to go out for more drinks.  Ah, college.  We headed to our favorite bar, Knight Library.  Laura and I walked next door to a place called Dungeon to get a glass of wine first:

I’m not sure why I think I can drink like an Irishman, but…I can’t.  After drink #2, my voice becomes the loudest and most high-pitched sound in the world, and by drink #4 there are two things that you can put money on happening:

1.  I will dance like an absolute psychopath, but I will act as if the people around me should be thankful for the artistic gift I’m bestowing upon them.

Dancing Queens- apparently this trait runs in the family

2.  I will rap.  Yes, rap.  My repertoire includes several Nicki Minaj hits, as well as many of Lil Wayne’s.  Young Money til the death of me.

Me on Halloween doing my best Nicki Minaj face

Twins, obviously.

What can I say.  I’m just special.

Corey won tickets to a Kid Rock concert on the radio, so that’s where we are headed tonight!  I have a feeling there will be lots of dancing and rapping in my near future…

What’s the best food you’ve discovered while “trying something new”?
